Abstract
The results of a recently concluded research project by Professors Dimitrios Triantaphyllou and Kostas Ifantis on “National Role Perceptions and Foreign Policy Orientation: the Ideational Bases of Greek Political Elite’s Perception and Policy Towards Turkey” were presented and evaluated in this seminar. The research aimed to fill a hole in assessing the impact of the economic crisis of Greek Foreign Policy, in particular with regard the perceptions of Greek elites towards Turkey within the context of Greece’s crisis and Turkey’s growing emergence at a time when its EU accession progress was faltering. It consisted of a series of in-depth structured interviews of members of Greece’s political, business, and media elites and extensive use of Foreign Policy Analysis. It provided both room for optimism regarding the future of Greek-Turkey relations as well as concerns regarding the very low levels of trust Greek elites have towards Turkey.
