President Anastasiades gave a public lecture as part of the Hellenic Observatory’s ongoing programme of events. The lecture was entitled, ‘The true story about the geopolitical role of Cyprus: David or Goliath?’. The President covered a range of issues: finding a solution to the Cyprus ‘problem’; Cyprus’ role in the eastern Mediterranean; his desire that Cyprus join the ‘Partnership for Peace’ programme; the benefits of exploiting the hydrocarbon reserves around the island’s shores; and, Cyprus’ exit from the euro-crisis.
A Q&A followed, chaired by Professor Kevin Featherstone. The lecture was held in the Sheikh Zayed Theatre, LSE and was attended by over 400 guests, with at least 50 more watching via a video-link from another room. The President was accompanied by several senior members of his administration, including the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ioannis Kasoulides; the Minister of Finance, Mr. Haris Georgiades; and, the Minister for Commerce, Energy and Tourism, Mr. Yiorgos Lakkotrypis A private dinner was held afterwards, hosted by Professor Stuart Corbridge, LSE Provost.
