The 2nd Annual Conference organised by the Hellenic Alumni of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) entitled ‘Young Greek Minds: Leading Our Country To A Better Future’, was successfully held on Monday 22nd April, at the Hilton Hotel in Athens.
In her opening speech, Ms. Maria Xytaki, President of the Hellenic Alumni of the LSE, focused on the purpose of the conference in being to ’highlight the role of the new generation of Greeks and their importance for the progress and prosperity of the country’, given that ’young Greeks are equipped with knowledge, are hard-working and driven by the belief that a ‘new’ Greece can regain its rightful place on the world map’. She also stressed the newly established aim of the Hellenic Alumni of the LSE to award the University’s Graduates who have been recognized for their contribution to the society.
In the opening speech, the Greek Minister of Finance, Dr. Yannis Stournaras addressed how unemployment has affected the Greek youth, pointing out that the Government’s priority is to ’create conditions that will allow the younger population to enter directly into the production process’. He followed by acknowledging that ‘our country’s youth is the most efficient investment for the future - it is the key that will open the country’s perspectives’.
The event continued with an award ceremony with Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, founder and Chairman easy Group and easy Jet plc. travel and leisure companies. Being one of the most promising business men of his generation, Sir Stelios, one of the most representative examples of successful young entrepreneurs, is committed to the provision of scholarships to young people who wish to study to a highly established University.

* The Hellenic Alumni of the London School of Economics and Political Science was founded in 1992 and has for many years been the most active alumni association of foreign universities in Greece, having shown a significant increase in the number of registered members and being very active in organizing events.
