LECTURE TOPIC:

On 21 January 2014, Serbia entered the negotiation process towards EU accession. The date is not important to Serbia alone, but to the region as a whole. The opening of the negotiations will speed up internal reforms in Serbia and arguably give impetus to the process of reconciliation in the region. Along the path towards full EU membership, Serbia will be faced with two major challenges: the implementation of the Brussels agreement and the implementation of domestic reforms.

Dr Ognjen Pribičević is the Serbian Ambassador to the UK. Before entering the world of diplomacy, he has enjoyed a successful career in academia, including fellowships at the Universities of Oxford, Vienna and Pittsburgh. Previous posts: Scientific Advisor, Institute of Social Sciences, 1992- present Previous Position: Researcher, Institute for Journalism, 1991-1992 Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany, 2005-2009 Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, 2004-2005
