Biography
Dr Julia David is currently an associate researcher at IHMC (CNRS/ENS Ulm) (History Department, Ens Ulm) in Paris and a visiting research Fellow at Oxford. She has just completed a visiting scholar position at New York University and a fellowship at Harvard University. She completed her PhD in political science at Sorbonne university, focusing on French Jewish intellectuals/thinkers since the interwar period. Recently, she published, Ni réaction ni révolution. La intellectuels juifs, la critique du progrès et le scrupule de l'histoire, L'Harmattan, 2013 (Neither reaction nor revolution. The Jewish intellectuals, the critique of progress and the scruple of history). She has contributed to several books and published articles in the field of the history of ideas. Her research focuses on Jewish intellectual history in Europe since Emancipation, with a strong emphasis on Jewish intellectual history in France. More widely, she's interested in the history of political thought (notably the links between politics and religion) and in the French intellectual and political history in the contemporary period. She has taught at IEP Paris, Institut Catholique de Paris and Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées in Paris.
