Michael Hume is a PhD Cadidate at the European Institute and his research topic is: 'Policy and the Euro Crisis'. Michael’s research is focused on the interplay between economic and political forces both during and after the Euro crisis. The role of policy omission and errors in relation to the growth of macroeconomic imbalances before the crisis and bond market volatility during the crisis is a primary focus. His research is intended to be policy relevant and contribute to public debates concerning the reform of Euro-area economic governance.
As well as being a PhD candidate at the LSE Michael is a Global Strategist at MKP Capital, a New York based hedge fund. He was Head of the Capital Markets Division at the Bank of England until April 2016 and Chief European Economist at Lehman Brothers until 2008. He holds a BA in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from the University of Oxford and an MSc in Economics from the University of Warwick. He received a PhD scholarship from the Bank of England and an MSc scholarship from the ESRC.
