Pieter is LSE Fellow in the Political Economy of Europe since September 2017. He completed degrees in Philosophy as well as Economics at the KU Leuven (Belgium) before joining the London School of Economics for his MSc and PhD. Earlier Pieter worked as policy consultant (Technopolis Group and IDEA Consult) and completed a traineeship at the European Commission (DG ENTR).
His research focuses on the political economy of welfare states. In his thesis he investigated the interaction between reforms of public and private welfare provision. Other work focuses on the welfare-finance nexus, especially regarding the allocation of pension fund assets. Apart from teaching a course on the political economy of European welfare states, Pieter will teach courses on monetary integration and European political economy.
