Spotlight
on courses
Interested in finding out more on the structure of
the MSc Economics 2 year programme and your courses? The MSc
programme regulations can be found on the Calendar. Note this link is for
the 2015/16 academic year. The Programme Director for the MSc
Economics 2 year Dr Vassilis
Hajivassiliou tells us:
|
|
|
“The most exciting aspect of the MSc Economics 2 Year programme
is the diversity of its students: physicists, engineers,
statisticians, economists without a strong quantitative
background, are all brought together under the unifying theme
that they all excelled in their past studies and all desire to
acquire the tools necessary to succeed in post-graduate study of
modern economics.”

Student
Profiles
What’s it like to study with us? Take a look
at our MSc student profiles.
Tvisha Nevatia, MSc Economics 2 year says:
|
|
|
“On a typical
day, I would attend a lecture, work on problem sets, attend
seminars, and meet teachers and professors during their
office-hour to discuss any doubts. However, much more goes on in
the big picture, as one works on an independent extended essay
[in the second year], networks at several careers events that
exposes one to the different career options after the programme,
attends a wide range of public lectures organised at LSE, and
takes in and contributes to the plethora of ideas floating
around. The highlight for me has been discussing research papers
with esteemed professors, breaking down seemingly big questions
of poverty, inequality, gender discrimination and measuring
impacts of various public policies directed towards development.”

Fulfilling Conditions/Supplying Required Documents and Registration
|
|
|
Date
- Registration takes
place on 21 September 2016
- Time – You will be
assigned a one hour slot to attend.
Note that any ‘Late Registration’ dates shown in LSE
web pages do not apply to your programme.
Meeting
your conditions before you arrive
It is vital that you fully read the Graduate
Offer Pack, which outlines the various steps that must
be taken before registration. See especially: pp 12-13: Fulfilling
conditions attached to your offer/supplying required documents and
pp 16-17: Visa advice for international students.
Any outstanding conditions and documents are also displayed in your
LSE for You account; be sure to
submit these in good time. You will not be allowed to
register unless you have submitted all documentation specified on
your offer of admission and
all the legal documents (e.g. appropriate ID; Visa (if applicable))
necessary for registration.
Students are required to attend the whole teaching programme and
are required to be registered in order to attend. Hence you should
register on 21 September 2016, before the teaching programme
begins.
If you think you are unlikely to meet this date, contact the MSc Programme Manager as soon as
possible. Requests to register after 21 September 2016
may be considered but will be granted only in particular
exceptional circumstances.
What to
expect at registration
Registration takes place in one hour slots. You will be
informed of your slot nearer the registration date. Ensure you have
all the documents you need – here’s a useful checklist.
[Note that this web page is not yet updated for 2016 entry:
re-check for updates during the coming months.]
Once you
have registered, you will then need to:
- Visit the Library
to activate your IT account. Familiarise yourself with the
Library and what’s available for you to use as a registered
student. The IT helpdesk is based in the Library should you
have any IT queries.
- Take yourself on a
tour of LSE using the LSExplorer!
You can pick these leaflets up from the main reception in the
Old Building.
- You will receive a
welcome presentation from your MSc Programme Director during
LSE Welcome Week (19-23 September 2016). You will be informed
of when this is nearer to the start of term.
- Throughout LSE
Welcome Week, there will be lots of activities for new
students to take part in. Keep an eye on the Welcome Week web
page for updates.

LSESU
Economics Society and Rationale
“Rationale is the official
magazine of the LSESU Economics
Society, the largest academic society at the LSE. In
2015-2016, it was run wholly by MSc students affiliated with the
Department of Economics, and featured articles by various
undergraduate and graduate students. Apart from being editors, various
MSc students wrote articles in our issues, which are available here.
|
|
|
In addition to supporting Rationale, the Economics Society holds a
variety of academic and social events. In the last year, we have
had events involving speakers such as Lord Robert Skidelsky,
Professor Ricardo Reis, and Linda Yueh. Rationale and the Economics Society are just a few
of the many ways you can enhance your academic experience as a
student at the LSE."
Pujan Modi
Editor-in-Chief,
Rationale Magazine 2015-2016
