Your MSc Programme

The LSE MSc Econometrics and Mathematical Economics (MSc EME) programme is a world-leading Master’s programme. It is highly regarded by employers and academic departments across the world. We have an outstanding placement record for our MSc graduates, because

  • we train our MSc students to think deeply and rigorously about economic problems, imparting technical skills that are highly prized by employers across the board
  • the advanced and technically rigorous nature of the programme also serves as an excellent foundation for PhD programmes.

An MSc EME from LSE certainly adds value to your career prospects and employability. Our post MSc student destinations reveal that 24% of students progress to PhDs/further academic work, 26% of students join public sector organisations and 45% move on to private sector roles, mostly to professional economics positions and consultancy.

LSE Library

The LSE Library will likely be the building you most use on LSE’s campus. More than just a book collection or a place to study, the Library offers a wide range of services and training. Learn about the Library and its resources at Welcome to LSE Library.

The Library is home to the IT walk-in-centre and as from September the new LSE Life will be a one-stop shop enabling all students to meet with colleagues from a range of services/divisions across the School: Careers, Library, TLC, Language Centre, Alumni Office, Faith Centre, and get advice specific to their needs.

LSE Social

LSE is just a place to study? Think again. LSE has a vibrant community in which you can get involved: arts, music, sports. From weekly free music concerts in the Shaw Library, and an LSE orchestra and choir with their own professional conductors, to various film, art and photographic student societies, and artist-in-residence projects. Explore more with LSE Arts.

On campus, you will be able to find squash courts, badminton courts and an exercise studio. This is in addition to our gym, boasting a range of Technogym and Olympic standard strength performance equipment - see LSE Sports Facilities. Further from campus, LSE’s Sportsground has 17 acres of playing fields in New Malden, Surrey. Amenities include football and rugby pitches, cricket squares and a tennis court.

The Department hosts two MSc Social events per year. In 2015/6, we hosted a Cajun Dance and Ceilidh. These are a wonderful opportunity to take a break from your study, socialise with your fellow students, enjoy some food and drink courtesy of the Department and learn some new dancing!

Department News

The annual Coase-Phillips Lectures are hosted jointly by the journal Economica and the Department of Economics. Two of Economica's most famous articles are the inspiration for the Economica Annual Lecture Series in conjunction with the Department. The 'Phillips Curve' article was the most heavily-cited macroeconomics title of the 20th century; Ronald Coase won the Nobel Prize for his work on the theory of the firm which began with his Economica article.

The 2016 Economica-Phillips Lecture takes place on 28 April 2016. Professor Robert Hall, one of the world's leading macroeconomists will speak on the macroeconomics of persistent slumps.

On 12 May 2016, Professor Robert Pindyck will give the 2016 Economica-Coase Lecture.  Robert Pindyck, one of the world’s leading microeconomists, will discuss his recent work, which focusses on economic policies relating to rare disasters.
Podcasts of the lectures will be available from our You Tube channel.

We look forward to welcoming you to your MSc programme, the Department and to LSE!
