What is Green Impact
Green Impact is an environmental accreditation and awards scheme run by the National Union of Students and brings together staff and students to make green campuses, curriculums and communities across the country. Green Impact supports teams and departments to make simple, tangible and powerful changes in behaviour and policy through an online workbook of criteria.
LSE is already a participant of the Green Impact scheme.
Green Impact teams are working on campus and in Halls of Residence to reduce the School's environmental impact. The Green Impact workbook contains practical actions to encourage staff and students to change their day-to-day behaviours and to cut their carbon footprint.
Every year departments are audited and receive a level of accreditation - Working Towards, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Excellence, and Platinum for the top scoring team.

Our moto is: Green for Beginners
Our aims are to improve the environmental performance of the Department and re-discover what it means to be green.
Our main areas of concern and interest are:
-
reduction of our energy consumption;
-
reduction of waste and increase of the amount of waste that is recycled, with emphasis on recycling correctly!
-
minimising our negative impact on the environment;
-
encouragement and promotion of all things green (from beauty tips to events and activities in London and elsewhere).
In this regard, please see our recent communication with useful information and tips: Green for Beginners emails and posters.
In the 2014-2015 academic year we organised an Adopt-A-Plant event, sponsored by the Department. This academic year we organised a similar event in a larger scale in March 2016. More information is available here.
