Telephony toolbar password policy

Why do I need a password for my new telephony toolbar?

The new telephony system will make it much easier for staff to manage their telephone calls when in and out of the office. As the new system will be so much more accessible, there is also a need for increased security however. The password protects staff against:

  • Call fraud being initiated using the telephone number of an LSE staff member
  • High telephone charges being incurred as a result of call fraud
  •  Malevolent phone calls being made by hackers using the telephone number of an LSE staff member.

A strong password for this software will offer vital protection and help to ensure a more secure working environment for all staff.

What is my default password?

When their department is scheduled to be moved over to the new telephony system, each staff member will receive a ‘Getting Started’ email from telecoms@lse.ac.uk. This email will contain each staff member’s default password for the telephony toolbar and other key information regarding the new services.

How do I change my default password/log in to the toolbar for the first time?

When accessing Outlook or Internet Explorer/Firefox Click the Log in icon on the Telephony Toolbar. A dialogue box will open asking for your username and password. Log in using your LSE Email address as your username, adding the temporary password provided to you in your getting started email.

When you attempt to login first time with the default password, a box pops up and prompts you to change it.

Can this password be the same as my LSE network password?

The telephony toolbar password serves this particular application. IMT do not recommend the use of the same password for multiple applications. Staff may wish to use the same password for the telephony toolbar as their password for their LSE network account but are requested to note that the password expiry periods are different for each.

Staff are requested to read the information below and to contact Telecoms@lse.ac.uk if they experience any difficulties.

How do I log-in to the Telephony Toolbar?

Click Options on the toolbar as identified below:

If your username has not defaulted, please enter this in the ‘Username’ box. This will be your LSE email address.

Enter your password in the Password box (conforming to the criteria specified below). If you tick the options Save Username and Save Password these details will be saved on the device you are using and you will not need to enter these again on this device. Click Apply and OK to login to the toolbar.

What rules will my Telephony Toolbar password need to conform to?

  • Password must be at least 8 characters
  • Password must contain at least 1 UPPERCASE alpha character
  • Password must contain at least 1 lowercase alpha character
  • Password cannot contain the login ID
  • Password cannot be any of the last 8 passwords

What should I do if I’ve forgotten my password?

Staff members are advised that logins will be disabled after 3 failed login attempts and an email will be sent to telecoms@lse.ac.uk.

Staff members are requested to contact telecoms@lse.ac.uk if they experience any difficulties with their password.
