Tuition Fee Reductions for LSE undergraduates starting taught postgraduate study at the School
For 2010 entry:
Applicants for taught postgraduate study at LSE who have completed (regardless of when it was completed), or who are due to complete, a three year undergraduate degree at LSE are entitled to an additional reduction on their tuition fees. Applicants for taught postgraduate study at LSE who have completed (regardless of when it was completed), or who are due to complete, the Diploma in Accounting or Diploma in Sociology at LSE are also entitled to an additional reduction on their tuition fees. For 2010 enrolment, this reduction is set at 10% of the relevant full time or part time fee (see table of fees 2010 for fee levels). The scheme is open to all students, whether UK, EU or non-EU. Eligibility relates to the applicant and not the source of the fee payment. If the fees for an eligible applicant are paid by a sponsor, then the sponsor will pay the reduced rate. However, if the sponsor is an alumnus but the applicant is not, then the reduction will not be applied.
This scheme covers all taught masters (MSc/MA/MPA/LLM) programmes (except MSc Health Policy, Planning and Financing), the first year of MRes Economics (Track 1) and the first taught year of MSc (Research) programmes. It does not cover Visiting Research, MPhil/PhD or other MRes/PhD programmes.
For students on double degree programmes, the alumni reduction is only available for the year spent at LSE.
The following students are excluded from this scheme: Intercollegiate students who have taken some of their courses at LSE but are registered at another university, one year General Course students, graduates of the LSE External Programme, occasional students and past undergraduate students who did not complete their full three year undergraduate programme.
This alumni reduction can also be combined with the early payment discount scheme. It is important to note that, regardless of the reductions and discounts that a student is eligible for, offer letters and the fee payment system on 'LSE for You' will show that the full fee payment is due. Students who are eligible for this reduction should deduct the appropriate amount from the tuition fee. The remainder of the fee will show as due until after registration (typically in early November), when it will be cleared from student accounts.
The final decision on the eligibility of students rests with LSE. Appeals should go to the Graduate Admissions Manager first and then, if necessary, the Academic Registrar.
