Grant making bodies

Airey Neave Trust - Refugee Support

The trust gives grants to those with refugee status or exceptional leave to remain in the United Kingdom and a letter from the Home Office to prove it. Exclusions: asylum seekers, refugees with asylum status in countries other than Britain, overseas students in the UK on a student visa, British citizens or refugees now holding British citizenship.

Applicants wishing to do a full time BA or BSc degree course should wait until they are eligible for a grant from their Local Education Authority, because of the difficulty in finding money for three years of study. The average grant award is £1500 towards tuition fees.

Applicants should apply in March for the following October and must be interviewed on the telephone by Mrs Hannah Scott (020 7833 4440) in order that their command of English may be assessed as well as their eligibility before application forms are sent out. No new applicants are considered after the 1st of May.
