PJD Wiles Scholarship 2009/10

This scholarship is named after Professor PJD Wiles, who held the chair of Russian Social and Economic Studies at LSE from 1965 to 1985. The scholarships have been made possible by a generous donation from Abraaj Capital in recognition of Professor Wiles's work as the leading analyst of comparative economic systems.

Abraaj Capital is a leading asset management firm with interests from North Africa to the far reaches of the Indian sub-continent. It is based in the United Arab Emirates, where numerous LSE alumni work including many who were taught by Professor Wiles. Abraaj Capital’s Chief Executive Officer is a prominent LSE alumni.

There are ten scholarships available for study in 2009/10 and the value of each one is £10,000 plus tuition fees. The scholarships represent a fantastic opportunity for deserving students from the countries listed below. They will be awarded on the basis of financial need.

Recipients of these scholarships will be encouraged to submit their masters thesis for publication as part of the Abraaj Capital research publications.

Eligibility

In order to be eligible for this scholarship you need to apply for a full time, one year masters programme in any subject, and have an offer of admission by the closing date for the scholarship. You need to be living in, and be a national of one of the following countries:

Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Egypt, India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Yemen.

How to apply

This scholarship will be awarded on the basis of information submitted via the online application form for the Graduate Support Scheme. If you have not submitted an application, you should now complete the online Graduate Support Scheme form in order to be considered. Selection will take place in May 2009 and successful applicants will be notified by 31 July 2009.
