Judith Baines Careers Advisor
Judith
is one of two careers advisers who work with law students at LSE. Her career
has been mainly in the voluntary and university sectors before specialising
in careers work. In a previous role at London Metropolitan University,
Judith managed a unit which worked on placing students on volunteering
schemes and into individual placements working closely with the voluntary
sector. She went on to work as a careers adviser at the College of Law for
several years, where she also kept the careers service web resources on pro
bono opportunities and legal related internships up to date.
You can make an appointment to see Judith through the 'My Careers' section of the Careers Service website. You can book one-to-one appointments to discuss any careers related issues that you have, get an application checked, or ask for advice on interviews. You can also book longer one-to-one slots if you have an interview coming up so that you can practice with an adviser and receive feedback on your performance. The law sector webpages contain further advice on the value of work experience for law students and also give examples of the range of legal internships available. j.a.baines@lse.ac.uk
David Coles Volunteer Centre Coordinator
David Coles is the Volunteer Coordinator for the Volunteer Centre. David has been volunteering since he was in school and has helped set up a charity in Ghana in recent years. He also volunteers as a trustee for Greater London Volunteering. Before coming to LSE he worked for a charity called YouthNet, the organisation behind Do-it, the National Volunteering Database.
At LSE, David is responsible for the development of a variety of volunteering opportunities that enable students to develop their skills and gain experience. He works to increase the number of volunteering opportunities with local, national and international charities and NGOs and to establish and improve links between LSE and local communities in London. The Volunteer Centre caters to all students and staff at LSE, and regardless of whether you can give an afternoon, a week or even an hour, we can help you find a project that will suit your availabilities and interests. Aside from the pro bono opportunities listed here, you can also visit the Volunteer Centre website to discover the range of different opportunities available. volunteer@lse.ac.uk
