'The Promise of Justice' Lecture SeriesThe Legal Theory subject group at the LSE Law Department, in conjunction with
the Forum for European Philosophy (a charity based at the LSE's European
Institute: see
http://www.philosophy-forum.org/) has organised a programme of three
lectures under the title 'The Promise of Justice', to be held at the LSE in the
Spring term of 2007. All three lectures will take place from 6-7.30 pm in D302,
Clement House. The speakers are as follows: Monday, February 12: Howard Caygill Howard Caygill is Professor of Cultural History at Goldsmiths College, University of London, UK. His publications include Art of Judgment (1989); A Kant Dictionary (1995); Walter Benjamin: The Colour of Experience (1998); and Levinas and the Political (London, Routledge, 2002). Wednesday February 28: Rainer Forst. Rainer Forst is Professor of Political Theory at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, and in 2005-6 was Theodor Heuss Visiting Professor of Political Science and Philosophy at the New School for Social Research, New York, USA. He is the author of Contexts of Justice. Political Philosophy beyond Liberalism and Communitarianism (1994, 2002), Toleranz im Konflikt. Geschichte, Gehalt und Gegenwart eines umstrittenen Begriffs (2003), and Das Recht auf Rechtfertigung. Elemente einer konstruktivistischen Theorie der Gerechtigkeit (forthcoming, 2007). Monday March 12: Christoph Menke Christoph Menke is Professor of Philosophy at the University of Potsdam, Germany. His publications include The Sovereignty of Art: Aesthetic Negativity in Adorno and Derrida (1988, 1999); Tragödie im Sittlichen. Gerechtigkeit und Freiheit nach Hegel (1996); Reflections of Equality (2000, 2006) and Die Gegenwart der Tragödie. Versuch über Urteil und Spiel (2005).
