Plagiarism, computers and values
Edgar Whitley, PhD, together with colleagues at Lancaster University, has been awarded a Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) Fund for the Development of Teaching and Learning project on Plagiarism, Computers and Values. This is the first such HEFCE-funded project awarded to LSE.
Plagiarism is increasingly seen as a problem at UK universities, especially for overseas students whose educational values and experiences may differ from the expectations of UK universities. Some of these are genuine cases of student cheating but in many cases they arise because of differing expectations between staff and students of what is required from students' academic work.
This project explores these different expectations and what can be done to address them, drawing on the experiences of international business and management students in the first instance.
