Industry- and commerce-linked research in information systems
The Information Systems Group and its members undertake research projects with industrial and commercial firms and organisations, which frequently attract the interest of national and international media.
Carsten Sørensen has produced a report entitle The Future Role of Trust in Work - the key success factor for mobile productivity (PDF) for Microsoft UK as part of their ongoing project, Tomorrow's Work. The report explores the role of mobile technologies for the effective support of remote and mobile working. Tomorrow's Work is a project designed to debate key trends affecting British business and the role of technology in the future.

The department has undertaken a series of research projects for Novell on aspects of web and e-commerce use.
Members of the department co-edited a report for the British Chamber of Commerce on The Economic Impact of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Bill (PDF)`.
Peter Sommer, a research fellow in the department, is specialist advisor to the House of Commons Select Committee on Trade and Industry to support their inquiry into e-commerce. So far this has produced four published reports:
Frank Land, Steve Smithson and Catherine Chu were members of a working party set up by the British Computer Society (BCS) socio-technical specialist group, which produced a report on E-business Prospects: findings from an expert panel for the Economic and Social Research Council and UK Online for Business. ^
