SSIT4: e-government, Monday 22 March 2004, 2-3pm.

Stefano Gatti, Minister for Innovation and Technologies, Italy

Abstract

Counsellor Gatti will address the role Italy has been playing since the Genoa G8 Summit of 2001 regarding the most relevant issues pertaining to information and communication technology (ICT) and e-government. These are now at the core of the European and international debate towards the next WSIS at Tunis in 2005. The way Italy has stressed the centrality of e-government during its presidency of the European Union will be analysed as well as its role in focusing on the bridging of the digital divide within the broader context of international development initiatives.
