1. When can I apply?

We are accepting applications now for the next academic year. Thereafter, you can apply from November for courses starting in October of each year.

^

2. What are the entrance requirements?

We normally expect students to have the equivalent of an upper second class honours degree or an equivalent overseas qualification (see Entry requirements in the Graduate Prospectus). We also have English language requirements for students whose first language of study is not English.

^

3. Do I need to hold an IS qualification to join ISOR?

It is helpful but not necessary to have an undergraduate or masters qualification in IS to join ISOR, if you do not hold an IS degree you would normally hold a good degree in another social science discipline. If you do not hold an IS qualification then you must demonstrate a knowledge of IS from your work experience, or an understanding of IS through study in a related field, or other evidence of a strong interest in the IS field.

If you do not have a wide knowledge of IS then you will need to follow, but not be examined in, other courses from the ADMIS programme.

4. Do I have to have a GRE/ GMAT score?

No, we do not require you to take GRE/ GMAT exams.

^

5. What are the English language requirements?

For students whose first language is not English, the School has particular requirements for English.

  • TOEFL
(Test of English as a Foreign Language) with a minimum score of 603 in the paper test, 250 in the computer-based test or 100 in the internet based test. Full information on TOEFL and testing centres worldwide.

These are required because most assignments are essay-based and therefore you need to be competent particularly in written English. The School offers English Programmes both before courses start, for people who have not reached these levels, and throughout the year for students who wish to improve their English further.

6. How much does it cost to study ISOR?

The fees for 2009/10 are £13,992. The Financial Support Office has details of many grants and scholarships. Please note that competition for them is high. ISOR is recognised by the ESRC and qualifies for ESRC studentships; if you wish to be considered for it once you been offered a place on MSc ISOR please email ismscadmissions@lse.ac.uk

7. What scholarships are available?

The Information Systems Group offers Graduate Support Scheme awards.

We have prepared a document on funding opportunities for ISOR students.

Details of scholarships and financial support are available through the LSE Financial Support Office.

^

8. What is the deadline for applications?

There is no deadline, but early application is advised.

^

9. How quickly will I hear about my application?

We aim to inform you of our decision within three weeks of receiving the completed application form and all the supporting materials.

^

10. How many places are there on ISOR?

This year we aim to have 30 students on the course.

^

11. If I apply again the following year what do I need to do?

If you applied to the School for entry in one year, were unsuccessful and want your application to be reinstated for the following year, write to the Graduate Admissions Office enclosing your application fee before the end of November. If you contact the Admissions Office before the end of November, you do not need to complete a new application form. You must inform the office of any change in address or other details that may be relevant to your renewed application.

^

12. Are there more details of the application process available?

The School has a web page describing each stage of the online application process in detail (see How do I... in the Graduate Admissions section).

^

13. How can I get an application form?

Apply on-line or download an application form to Apply by post.
