What I have gained from studying ADMIS

What our students say about studying Information Systems at LSE

We asked our students to comment on their experience at LSE, this is a sample of the replies we got from students from different counties.

How to combine technology with business
YS (China)

ADMIS is the best degree to help you think outside the box by applying a multi-disciplinary approach to analyze complex problems. It gives you the necessary tools to challenge the status quo and is a real competitive advantage in the market. It helped me obtain my dream job in the tough UK consultancy market before graduating.
PK (France)

There is no one, fully-correct answer, but that does not mean we cease all attempts to find one. We need to continually understand and attempt to improve the situation by questioning and critiquing from differing perspectives.

It is difficult to choose a place to start from in answering this question since experiencing ADMIS has been a thoroughly life-changing process for me. To stay brief, I will focus on the things that I feel are most important. Studying for a postgraduate degree at LSE in general and within the Information Systems and Innovation Group in particular has been a truly eye-opening experience.
The unique approach to teaching that is practiced here is, in my opinion, difficult to adjust to, but immensely rewarding once you have put the initial effort in. Having completed the taught part of the course I feel enriched both on an intellectual and a personal level. I can best characterize my personal experience in terms of a metaphor. Coming from a technical-rational background I started ADMIS with a black and white and largely 2-dimensional view of the world.
Throughout Michaelmas term I felt like colours started pouring into this picture, blurring the grayscale boundaries that previously seemed to be so clear to me – I was mortified – the world is much richer and more complicated than I had ever imagined, and I felt helpless and lost in view of this.
Then, as the course progressed and the masses of knowledge and information that had accumulated in my head started to sink in, the picture started to develop a third dimension and things started to fall into place.
Finally, at this stage I feel that I have the cognitive foundation, and a small but powerful set of tools, on and with which I can build both a successful career and, more importantly, a satisfying intellectual way of life. ADMIS has been an invaluable experience, and I am very grateful to the professors that have guided me along this journey and all of the staff that make the course what it is – a pearl in the sea of sand that is contemporary higher education.

A challenging course delivered in a unique multi-cultural environment which greatly increases your understanding of information systems.
GH (Ireland)

I gained a job at a Hedge Fund in London, whilst also interviewing at many places I would not have been able to had I not got the LSE brand name on my CV.
I met a bunch of people from all over the world, all with their own stories, contributions and experiences to share. You can't really underestimate this, employers also find it very beneficial what with culture playing a big role in modern society.
I now think in a different way to how I did before I joined LSE - in a good way, I question things more, try to understand why something is as it is. This is obviously particularly true when it comes to the use of technology, how it changes the way we interact with the world.
