Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Programme

Benjamin A. Gilman is a retired New York Congressman. The scholarship’s goal is to diversify the type of US student who studies abroad. Specifically, the Gilman Programme offers scholarships for students who have been traditionally underrepresented in education abroad. Underrepresented groups include: students with high financial need; students from diverse ethnic backgrounds; students in fields of study underrepresented in study abroad and students with disabilities.

Scholarship recipients receive up to $5000 and students must use the award to help cover the costs of their chosen study abroad programme.

Eligibility

The Gilman Scholarship is open to all US citizen undergraduates in good academic standing. Applicants must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant at the time of application or during their year at LSE.

How to apply

To apply for this scholarship, you must review the application instructions and verify eligibility on the website at www.iie.org//programs/gilman/index.html. Students should submit an online application and send three copies of transcripts from their current institution and the last institution attended, if applicable, by the postmark deadline. Please note this scholarship is not administered by LSE and all applications must be made through the Gilman International Scholarship Programme.

The deadline for the receipt of applications has now passed.

Federal loans

The School is a registered institution for most types of US and Canadian student loans.  Students taking the General Course as part of their degree course at a university in the USA/Canada may qualify for Federal loans from their home university, as the General Course year counts as a "Year Abroad".  For further information, students should speak to their Study Abroad Office at their home university.
