MPhil/PhD in Finance

The Department of Finance has a formally structured PhD Programme which has received recognition as a research training centre from the ESRC. The programme aims to produce students whose research is of the highest international quality. The programme consists of taught courses in the first and second years. In addition students are required to attend the FMG's Capital Markets Workshop.

Doctoral students are strongly encouraged to participate at an early stage of their research training in appropriate international workshops and colloquia. Financial support is made available to students who want to present their work at or attend conferences relevant to their disciplines. Students are also offered the opportunity to gain teaching experience.

The structure of the programme is designed to provide a broad based training in theoretical and empirical research methods in Finance. The department has close links with the Financial Markets Group enabling students to attend regular seminars, workshops and conference given by internationally renowned speakers. Progress is regularly monitored by the departmental Postgraduate Research Assessment Review Panel, as well as through normal supervisory mechanisms.
