LSE Cities, the recently launched international centre that carries out research, education, outreach and advisory activities in the urban field, now has a website (see under Quick Links). LSE Cities builds on the interdisciplinary work of the Urban Age, extending its partnership with Deutsche Bank's Alfred Herrhausen Society for a further five-year period with a series of research programmes, educational initiatives and outreach projects that will initially focus on the links between the design of cities - their buildings and spaces - and climate change, urban governance and social well-being. The Cities Programme is the graduate education branch of LSE Cities, which is hosted by the Department of Sociology. For information on recent public lectures and events, including 'Reading London', an LSE Cities Programme discussion held on 13th February as part of LSE's Space for Thought Literary Festival, see the Events and outreach link under Contents.

The Cities Programme is delighted to announce that the Ove Arup Foundation has pledged a very generous gift of £105,000 over the next three years. The Ove Arup Foundation was a founding donor in the establishment of the Cities Programme in the late 1990s, and continues to be a key supporter of the Programmes aims and activities.
This generous gift will fund specialist teaching on infrastructure, environment and resources on the MSc in City Design and Social Science, including the work of Philipp Rode as the Ove Arup Foundation Fellow; the funding will also support the annual MSc field trip to some of the worlds fastest-growing conurbations. The students will research key aspects of city life and design, and turn that research into strategic guidance for future design. This years students will be travelling to Istanbul - for more about last years trip see our MSc pages. For more information on the work of the Ove Arup Foundation, see http://www.ovearupfoundation.org/
