Dr Armine Ishkanian

Dr Armine Ishkanian is a Lecturer in Social Policy at the Centre for Civil Society and the Programme Director of the MSc in NGOs and Development. Her research interests focus on civil society, NGOs, democracy building, development, gender, and diaspora and her regional expertise is on the countries of the former Soviet Union with a particular focus on Armenia. She has published widely in journals including the Journal of International Development, Central Asian Survey, Diaspora: A Journal of Transnational Studies, etc. Her book, Democracy-building and Civil Society in post-Soviet Armenia (Routledge 2008) addresses the challenges of democracy building in Armenia and the broader post-Soviet region. Her new research focus is on civil society and transitional justice.
