About the project

On 17-18 August 2009 a preparatory meeting on the project 'Comparative Studies on the New Immigrants from BRIC counties in America, Australia, Japan and the UK' (2009-12), was held in Shenyang, China. The Principle Investigator of the project is Professor Lixing Cheng, Department of Human Environment and Information Technology, Nihon Fukushi University. Dr Xiangqun Chang, CCPN Coordinator,  is one of the Co-Principle Investigators. She was conducting fieldwork in Shenyang, where she met Professor Lixing Chen; Professor Wei Wang, Faculty of Economics, Kagawa University; and Professor Jie Chen, International Exchange Centre, Ehime University, all from Japan.

During the meeting a numbers of issues on operating the project were discussed. It has been agreed that two conferences will be held in Tokyo and London in Spring 2011 and 2012 respectively. Professor Wei Wang will participate in the project in both Japan and the UK, where she will be a Visiting Professor at the Centre for Migration and Diaspora Studies, SOAS, on her Sabbatical Leave from April 2010 to March 2011.
