Yury Bikbaev, project director for LSE Enterprise, gave the welcome address at LSE's first Strategy & Management Consulting Conference in November 2010. The largest student conference in Europe on this theme, the event included discussions on emerging markets, the internet economy, shaping public policy and strategies for new digital media. Speakers from companies such as Accenture, Random House, Oliver Wyman and Deloitte enabled students to gain a practical understanding of the current challenges and opportunities faced by the profession.
Yury introduced the day by outlining today's global economy, the encouraging prospects for the future of consulting and how delegates could contribute:
'The knowledge we obtain and create for the betterment of society should be used wisely, ideally with the kind of responsibility the founders of the LSE had envisioned. You are here to chart the way out of the recession, to look beyond and into new technologies, to create a shared vision of what new competitive advantages in your industry will be, to take on new challenges of the consulting profession, and to think what it can contribute to the public policy and social sector.'
