'A lot of people have just packed up and gone home'

Adam Austerfield, Director of Projects for LSE Enterprise, was on The Weekend News on BBC Radio 5 on 17 July, analysing how British companies in Spain are faring.

business'The blue chip companies can take a longer-term view but the SMEs are really struggling, especially on the south coast. Trade between the UK and Spain dropped 31% in 2009 - that's enormous. 2010's probably going to be even worse.

'Spain is the UK's sixth biggest trading partner - we are deeply embedded within the Eurozone, so people who can survive are here for the long term, especially the blue chips. There are already opportunities if you can play the game right - but it's still tough.'

Adam is Vice President of the British Chamber of Commerce (BCC) in Spain.
