Social and Cohesion Policy Unit

EuropeEconomic and social cohesion within and among Member States is a key objective of the European Union. Over the past decade, the members of the Social and Cohesion Policy Unit have been frequent contributors to the policy debate on the achievements and future of European cohesion policy.

The unit is based at LSE Enterprise and draws on expertise from other LSE departments to create an interdisciplinary research approach.

The team combine their academic background with significant policy and evaluation experience to carry out studies in the following areas:

  1. evaluation (ex-ante, intermediate and ex-post) of the socio-economic impact of large investment projects, econometric modelling and data bank construction as well as programmes financed by European Structural Funds at both national and regional levels;
  2. political stability, institution building and administrative capacity;
  3. the future of regional policy and enlargement in the European Union.

Team members are also involved with designing and delivering professional training programmes for regional and national civil servants on the topics of:

  1. administrative capacity building;
  2. structural funds management and implementation.
