Special Cells: A Strategic Alliance Between Police and an Academic Institution on Violence against Women; Framing the Journey

The presentation will be a brief introduction to the evolution of a socio-legal service - the Special Cell for Women and Children, it will critically review the service developed in a Strategic Alliance between academic institution/civil society organisation and the Police, identify some persisting concerns and argue for the need to persevere with the state, law and social structures in the Indian society and the current effort to document and conceptualise this journey.

Anjali Dave is a Visiting Fellow at the Asia Research Centre, LSE. She is visiting the ARC from the School of Social Work, Tata Institute of Social Science, Mumbai. Anjali is a Social Work Educator who has developed interventions for and researched on socio-legal aspects of violence against women and has engaged in the processes of women's empowerment through education.
