The department runs a number of seminar series throughout the Michaelmas, Lent and Summer terms.
This year we have had several seminar series. Topics include Africa; the Culture and Cognition lecture series; East and Inner Asia; Latin America; South Asia; Taiwan; west Asia and North Africa as well as a frquent Anthropological film screenings. We also have a time-honoured weekly Research Seminar on Anthropological Theory which has, since Bronislaw Malinowski’s time in the 1910s, been the venue for cutting-edge, intensive debate on current research in the discipline. You are welcome and encouraged to attend all departmental seminars.
We also hold public lectures, such as the annual Malinowski Memorial Lecture, given in 2009 by Dr Joshua Barker, in 2010 by Dr Rane Willerslev, in 2011 by Dr Toby Kelly and in 2012 by Dr Alpa Shah. The 2013 Malinowski Memorial Lecture was given by Dr Andrew Beatty.
In 2009 the Department hosted a panel discussion on Tim Parks' new novel Dreams of Rivers and Seas with Catherine Allerton, Laura Bear and David Lan, Artistic Director of the Young Vic, as part of the LSE's first Space for Thought Literary Weekend. In 2012 the Department has contributed to several events in the 4th LSE Space for Thought Literary Festival.
