MSc Accounting, Organisations and Institutions, Class of 2010
I decided to join the Accounting, Organisations and Institutions (AOI) programme at LSE because it tied together my undergraduate education. In my undergraduate degree, I studied business strategy, finance and organisational strategy. The AOI programme offered courses that allowed me to leverage my undergraduate studies and tie them together in a meaningful way. It also provided a great opportunity to sharpen my business tools (e.g. advanced managerial and financial accounting courses as well as international accounting courses). LSE was a 'no-brainer'. World renowned, well respected and a top-notch education – also, who wouldn't want to study in London!?
The most interesting aspects of the programme I found were the Global Accounting courses and the Accounting, Organisations and Institutions core course. Both courses are taught to a small class by some of the most respected individuals in accounting. The Accounting, Organisations and Institutions course was highly theoretical, but still entirely practical. Ultimately, it developed new ways of thinking and brought to light a number of abstract, yet business relevant, subjects. The Global Accounting course offered a deep dive into accounting and the effects on accounting on a country-by-country basis – this is important because it helps in understanding meaningful regulatory issues as well as cultural differences across the world, but delivered on a comparable basis. Both courses made my pursuits after LSE that much more successful.
I currently work for a management consulting firm in London on projects that span across Europe. I have leveraged my academic training from LSE in an assortment of projects in the media and telecommunications space (in due diligence reports as well as strictly strategic projects). The AOI course enabled me to successfully audit financial and KPI figures in addition to providing the ability to take structured, informed approaches to my analysis. I am very gratetful for pursuing an AOI and LSE degree.
