Vassily Pigounidès’s research interests centre on the coproduction of social relations and economic and organisational practice, and on the interplay of people, tools, and expertise in the politics of valuation, with a particular focus on pricing. His dissertation, titled ‘Making Value: An Ethnography of the Price Factory,’ is an ethnographic study of a French start-up specialising in revenue and pricing management (also known as ‘yield management’). The dissertation traces the company’s trajectory from inception to exit to a public listed company to elucidate how value is being negotiated and constituted politically and materially in the present digital moment.
Vassily completed his undergraduate studies at ENS of Cachan in Sociology with a minor in Economics. He was a 2012 Visiting Student at MIT HASTS and holds a Masters in Sociology from the University of Paris-Sorbonne and a Masters in Economic History from the University of Panthéon-Sorbonne.
