LSE is both a company limited by guarantee and an exempt charity. Its registered address is Houghton Street, London, WC2A 2AE. 

Professor Craig Calhoun is Director of the School. He is supported by the Provost and three Pro-directors. The School Secretary has overall responsibility to the Director as secretary of the LSE Council, clerk of the Court of Governors and company secretary. LSE's principal academic advisory body is the Academic Board. Underpinning governance is a commitment the Ethics Code, environmental sustainability and equality and diversity.

As a public authority LSE is obliged to meet the requirements of the Freedom of Information (FoI) Act 2000. Financial accounts are compiled and published annually. The most recent accounts are for the academic year ending July 2015.
