LSE is an institution focused on world class teaching and research. The coordination and strategic planning behind this dynamic educational activity is the Directorate which covers both academic and non-academic concerns.
The Directorate is composed of the Director, four Pro-Directors (who are senior academics), Chief Operating Officer and their support staff.
The Director and the Directorate team help shape new ideas and initiatives and keep the School forward-thinking. In collaboration with expert academics and administrators, the Directorate seeks to keep LSE at the leading edge of contemporary intellectual thought.
Professor Julia Black, interim Director
Julia Black is currently Pro Director for Research at LSE and will serve as Interim Director of the School from September 2016.
She joined the Law Department in 1994. Julia completed her first degree in Jurisprudence and her DPhil at Oxford University. She has had a British Academy / Leverhulme Trust Senior Research Fellowship, and has been a Visiting Fellow at the University of Sydney and at All Souls College, Oxford. In 2014 she was the Sir Frank Holmes Visiting Professor in Public Policy at the University of Victoria, Wellington. Julia has written extensively on regulatory issues in a number of areas, and has advised policy makers, consumer bodies and regulators on issues of institutional design and regulatory policy. Julia was elected a Fellow of the British Academy in 2015 and granted the ECPR Standing Group on Regulatory Governance’s life time achievement award for her work on regulation in 2016.
Julia's principal research interest is to explore the nature, dynamics and legitimacy of regulatory regimes, both state and non-state. She has a particular interest in financial services regulation, and risk and regulation.
Julia has advised a number of governmental and consumer bodies in the UK and overseas, including the OECD, the National Audit Office, the environment agencies of the UK and Ireland, the Legal Services Board, the Solicitors Regulation Authority, the Financial Services Authority, the Bank of England, the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority, the Law Commission of England and Wales, and the Australian Law Reform Commission.She is a lay member of the Board of the Solicitors Regulation Authority and chair of the SRA Policy Committee. Julia was an academic advisor to the Bank of England's Fair and Effective Markets Review and to the Bank’s Open Forum in 2015. She was also a member of the Stern Review of the Research Excellence Framework in 2016.Julia is General Editor of the Modern Law Review and is on the editorial boards of Law and Policy, Regulation and Governance and the Journal of Financial Regulation.

The Director is appointed for a fixed term. The pro-directors are appointed from within the School's senior academics, again for fixed terms. The Directorate reports to the School's Court of Governors.

Professor Paul Kelly
Professor Paul Kelly is Pro-Director for Education with special reference to East Asia. He is also Professor on Political Theory in the Government Department.
He has a PhD from the University of London where he studied at both LSE and UCL and has held posts at the University of Chicago, University of Michigan and University of Wales, Swansea before returning to LSE in 1995. He is author and editor of fourteen books. His research is in the field of British political theory and politics and he speaks on issues of current British politics and its global impact.
His Pro-Director role covers all aspects of the School's educational offer including regular undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes; responsibility for the Summer School and Executive programme and for LSE's contribution to the University of London International Programme. He has responsibility for the Academic Registry, the Academic and Professional Development Division and Summer, Careers Service and the Executive Education Division. In respect of International Affairs he leads on the LSE's East Asia Strategy and engagement with the School's seven Global International Partnerships and has responsibility for the Academic Partnerships Office and the East Asia representatives office. He works closely with the LSE Advancement Division and represents the School externally on behalf of the Director.

Professor David Webb
Professor David Webb is Professor of Finance and Pro-Director for Planning and Resources
David Webb joined the directorate in Sept 2014 as Pro-Director of Planning and Resources. Professor Webb's research interests lie in financial economics and monetary theory, specifically the analysis of bankruptcy and financial contracts.

Professor Eric Neumayer
Eric Neumayer is Professor of Environment and Development and Pro-Director Faculty Development
Previously, he served LSE as Vice-Chair of the Appointments Committee and, prior to that, as Head of the Department of Geography and Environment.
An economist by training, he has broad research interests, with main interests in environmental economics, international political economy and research methods. He has published widely in a range of journals across international relations, political science, geography and environmental economics.

Doctor Andrew G. Young
Doctor Andrew G. Young is Chief Operating Officer
Andrew has a wide range of management experience, including change management and the development of successful support teams. He is an approachable manager with the skills to lead large and complex teams, setting clear, attainable but stretching targets in order to achieve strategic goals. Andrew is accustomed to working at Board level with governors in order to develop inclusive approaches to major change projects. He has experience of risk management particularly in relation to staff working overseas in hostile environments. Andrew previously worked at the University of Newcastle, Newcastle Science City and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
At LSE, Andrew is responsible for the effective coordination and integration of professional services and their efficient and cost-effective delivery. He provides line management to a range of service divisions and aims to build collaboration, communication and coordination amongst the service divisions and professional service staff in academic units.
