How do I register for a course place?
Registration is now closed.
Can I pay in instalments?
No, we do not have the facility to accept payment by instalment.
Are there any subsidised places?
Yes, the Centre is able to offer up to five subsidised places, at £500, in support of those who would otherwise be unable to take the course.
Applications for subsidised places will be considered after the deadline of Noon, 18 August 2016, and places will be awarded on the basis of merit and financial need.
When should I register?
Online registration will open on 1 August 2016. There are a limited number of places available.
What is your cancelation policy?
You can cancel your course registration within 14 days from the time of purchase. Standard Online Store Returns & Cancellations policy applies.

What materials will I be provided with?
Participants will be provided with a pack of resources in a file and on a USB storage device.
Is the course suitable for me?
This course is designed for mid-career professionals from any sector who are working in a relevant area. We particularly welcome participants from military policy and operations, peace and security governance, post conflict reconstruction, Women, Peace and Security and Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative (PSVI) development and implementation, gender mainstreaming, and advocacy and activism in women’s human rights.
Can this count to my degree?
No. This course is not part of the LSE academic programme, but is aimed at those already working in a related area. Click here for details of our Women, Peace and Security course for LSE postgraduate students, and the MSc in Women, Peace and Security programme which starts in October 2017.
What will the course cover?

The social, political and economic context: what we know (and what we don’t know) about women in war and conflict-affected areas, including: sexual and gender-based violence; access to land and property; loss of family members and documentation; displacement; migration; seeking asylum and refuge.

The global ‘Women, Peace and Security’ agenda: history, evolution and critiques, including examination of the United Nations Security Council Resolutions; the Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative and the 2015 Global Study of UNSCR 1325.

The international legal framework: using International Humanitarian Law, International Human Rights Law and International Criminal Law in promoting and protecting women’s human rights in conflict-affected environments.

Participation, Protection, Prevention, Relief and Recovery: in-depth examination of the four pillars of the UN Women, Peace and Security agenda including: participation in peace negotiation and peacekeeping; definitions of and responsibility for protection; increasing accountability and ending impunity for conflict-related sexual violence; delivering medical and psycho-social care for survivors.
Who is teaching on the course?
The course is convened, and most sessions taught by: Professor Christine Chinkin and Dr Marsha Henry.
Specific sessions will be led by Dr Zeynep Kaya, Dr Paul Kirby and Dr Punam Yadav – all members of the Centre for Women, Peace and Security - and guest practitioners including Hannah Bond, Director of Gender Action for Peace and Security (GAPS), the UK’s Women, Peace and Security civil society network.
Is there a course assessment?
There will be no formal assessment.
Where and when is the course held?
The course sessions will be held on Thursday 22 and Friday 23 September 2016 between 9am-6pm, at LSE campus in central London.
Is the course accredited for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points?
The course is not currently accredited for Continuing Professional Development.
