Research summary > [Click to expand]

I'm interested in foundations and philosophy of modern physics, especially of quantum physics, including relativistic quantum field theory. My approach to these problems is in the spirit of mathematical physics: In the analysis of foundational-philosophical problems I rely on precise and explicit mathematical models and methods. A related field of interest is foundations and interpretation of probability, including non-classical (quantum) probability theory. The natural framework of quantum probability theory is the theory of von Neumann algebras. The creator of this theory was John von Neumann (1903-1957). My interest in his life and work is motivated by his work on the mathematical-conceptual foundations of quantum theory.
