My research interests lie in the fields of political sociology and democratic theory, with a focus on contemporary European democracy and EU integration. Areas of particular interest are political engagement and public opinion, partisanship, citizenship under conditions of transnational integration, and the nature of social bonds. My work draws on interpretative social theory and qualitative research methods.

Visiting scholar at the Institute of Advanced Studies (Wissenschaftskolleg) in Berlin, the Australian National University, Harvard University, Sciences Po in Paris and the Humboldt University Berlin. Previously research fellow at the Czech Institute of International Relations in Prague, and lecturer at universities in the Czech Republic and Albania. His paper ‘Emergency Europe’ was awarded the 2015 Harrison Prize for the best paper published in Political Studies.
