PB102 Social Psychology

Knowing how others influence our behaviour is key to understanding ourselves and the people around us.

This introduction course to Social Psychology combines key theories and cutting-edge research to explain how we feel, act and behave in the actual or imagined presence of others. In this course, we will review and critically evaluate socio-psychological explanations and theories of individual, interpersonal and group processes. We will study the ways in which individuals perceive and think about the social world, how they conceptualize themselves and participate in social groups, and the extent to which the broader social context influences our thoughts and behaviour.

This course covers a core discipline of the social sciences, and it is particularly relevant to any profession that involves dealing with other people. Over the duration of this course, you will develop the knowledge and analytical skills necessary to apply the insights gained from Social Psychology to real-world social issues and to identify effective ways for achieving behavioural and societal change.
