VoxDev.org, a new website promoting the use of research in the development of policy on the economic issues and challenges facing the developing world, has been launched in partnership with the International Growth Centre (IGC), based at LSE.

The website will provide the latest commentary, analysis and evidence on issues such as the political consequences of macroeconomic policy reforms, the impact of global economic trends – such as trade liberalisation on developing countries – and the latest research on welfare schemes across the world.

Robin Burgess, member of the VoxDev editorial board and Professor of Economics at LSE, said: “VoxDev creates a direct link that did not exist before — between the ideas produced by frontier researchers in development and the policymakers and practitioners who can put them to use.”

Tavneet Suri, Editor-in-Chief of VoxDev and Associate Professor of Applied Economics at the MIT Sloan School of Management, said: “We are committed to making VoxDev the most successful development policy portal in the world, the premier site for evidence on economic issues facing the developing world.”

For the website’s launch, Professor Abhijit Banerjee (MIT) writes about the consequences of demonetisation in India, Professor Pinelopi K. Goldberg (Yale University) tackles the impact of trade and globalisation on developing countries, and Professor Edward Glaeser (Harvard University) addresses the mechanics of a real estate bubble in China.

VoxDev.org features articles and videos from experts designed to appeal to policymakers, development practitioners and economists. It will publish articles and commentary on the latest research on trade, migration, health and education, technology, energy and other issues.

The website is a partnership of the IGC, the Centre for Economic Policy Research and the Private Enterprise Development in Low Income Countries programme.

Along with Dr Suri and Professor Burgess, the site’s editorial board includes Chang-Tai Hsieh (University of Chicago) and Chris Woodruff (University of Oxford).

VoxDev.org is a sister site to the popular economics site VoxEU.org.
