What has your career path (in and out of the LSE) been like to date?
I joined the LSE catering department as a chef in the summer of 2010 at Bankside House through a catering agency, then after a few weeks I was taken on a more permanent basis. In January 2014 I was promoted to Assistant Chef Manager. Previously I have worked at a variety of different kitchens cooking different foods.
How long have you worked at the LSE?
For four years now.
What does your job entail?
My job is very different according to whether it is term time or vacation, which I love for the variety it offers; I also get the opportunity to work at some of the other catered halls – which adds to my job fulfilment. The catering here is so diverse and makes my job very exciting – it is definitely not dull! Feeding students has been very rewarding, as they really appreciate what we do for them; the halls are their home, so we always try to make them feel a part of our ever expanding family.
What bits about your job get you out of bed in the morning?
My main reason for coming to work at the LSE is to cook, which is more of a vocation than a job and the added benefit of getting paid as well as good holidays to take time out to recharge my batteries.
What's the best thing about working at the LSE?
The best thing about working for the LSE is the staff as they are always helpful and make me feel part of their lives and also of course the students, they are always friendly and approachable.
What advice would you give to people who want to join us at the LSE?
The advice I would give to someone who wanted to join the LSE would be go for it, you would have no regrets and you would always be made to feel welcome, whatever your job was. If you do join, I look forward to maybe saying hello to you in person.
