Pay and pensions: professional services

Pay

Salaries are paid monthly in arrears by bank transfer. For appointments between bands 1 - 8, there is an incremental increase with every year of service up to the maximum for the band. (Salary Bands 9 and 10 are contribution-related.)

Salaries are also receive a ‘cost of living’ increase each year in line with the pay award negotiated nationally between the Universities and Colleges Employers’ Association and Higher Education unions.

Pensions

The School has two good pension schemes, and staff are automatically entered into one of them:

• Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS), for staff employed at salary band 6 and above;

• Superannuation Arrangements of the University of London (SAUL) for staff employed on salary bands 1-5.

Both are ‘defined benefit’ schemes, which means that the pension you receive on retirement is based on your salary level and length of service.

We believe our pension schemes are among the best in the UK.
