LSE Interim Director, Professor Julia Black, on what it means to be an academic at LSE

Transcript

So why come and join LSE?

LSE is one of the world’s leading social science institutions, we’re incredibly proud of our research and we’re incredibly proud of the academics who are with us. It is a demanding place however, it’s a busy place, so if you want a little quiet life then the LSE is probably not for you.

We lead in a number of different areas of social sciences ranging from economics, law, political science, sociology, social policy, international relations – the list could go on. But wherever you are and wherever you come from or whatever your research, we hope that you find the LSE a welcoming home and a stimulating home.

Our aim is to provide the environment so you can be the best academic that you can possibly be.

So it’s an intellectually vibrant place, it’s also socially a very welcoming place. LSE academics are also very engaged in the world around them, we pride ourselves on our public engagement, on the impact that we have on policy makers around the world. We’re situated in London, we’re close to London’s policy makers but we’re also working with policy makers in international organisations and in many, many different countries around the globe. We’re seen to be out there, making sure that social science research is relevant and has a really big impact on the different challenges that the world faces today. So please, if you’re interested in joining the LSE do get in touch with us and find out what the opportunities are that we can offer you here.
