Victoria Simpkin

Biography

Dr Victoria Simpkin is a Research Officer at LSE Health. She is a cardiologist and has worked in Oxford, Sydney and London. Dr Simpkin is Associate Editor of the Future Hospital Journal, a publication from the Royal College of Physicians. More recently she undertook an internship at the OECD contributing to a model to determine the health and economic burden of antimicrobial resistance. She has undertaken a joint MSc in Health Policy, Planning and Financing between the London School of Economics and Political Science and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Dr Simpkin holds a BSc in Physiology (first-class honours) as well as a medical degree (MBChB) from the University of Edinburgh.

Research

Dr Simpkin’s research interests lie in the field of antimicrobial resistance and cardiovascular research. She has engaged in a heterogenous selection of research fields, and has experience in research at a fundamental basic science level, at a clinical level and at a policy level. Recent research has involved co-authoring a paper commissioned by the Dutch government reviewing and analysing the existing European and international initiatives to support innovation of novel antibiotic drugs. She will continue to work in the field of antimicrobial resistance. Other research interests include cardiovascular disease and she has undertaken clinical research in this area.
