Research Digest 2009
LSE Health's Research Digest 2009 provides an overview of the Centre's various activities and accomplishments in 2008, highlighting key contributions to research, policy development, dissemination and teaching. It was an exciting and successful year for the Centre. Our academics made an important contribution to the Department of Social Policy's submission to the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), which once again ranked the department as the UK leader in its field. We also celebrated the tenth anniversary of the very successful European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies, and welcomed a number of exciting new research collaborations both at home and abroad, including a programme on health policy with the Tata Institute for Social Sciences in India. We continued to publish extensively and provided advice to a wide range of policy-makers nationally and internationally, including a review of European health systems performance that formed the centrepiece of a high-level symposium in Washington DC attended by President-elect Obama's transition team. All of these initiatives and collaborations have further strengthened the breadth and depth of LSE Health's expertise and contributions as a leading centre in health economics and policy.
