The Green Impact team have a top 5 energy saving tips, which are as follows:
1. Turn off lights in rooms when you are the last to leave
2. Switch off your monitor when you’re away from your desk for more than 5 minutes (same goes for lights in the office)
3. Only boil as much water as you need when boiling a kettle
4. Wear extra layers in the winter to keep warm to save using extra heating/wear lighter clothing in the summer to reduce the amount of times you need to use a fan
5. Only print if you really need to – and double sided where possible
Our 5 most negative environmental impacts as a department
1. Printing – can you cut down on the amount you print? Have you considered printing double sided and two pages per sheet where possible?
2. Leaving an office heated when you are not in – If you can control the heating in your office, please remember to turn it off before you leave. If your office is too hot, please inform Estates who can turn it down for you.
3. Waste – how much can you reuse or recycle instead of disposing of?
4. Long haul travel for meetings – Is it possible for you to use video conferencing instead? If you need assistance with this, please speak to Esther in COW 3.02
5. Bottled water – Now we have two water filter taps installed in Cowdray House (3rd and 4th floor kitchens), can this be used instead of buying plastic bottles? Did you know, you can now request tap water with your meetings if ordering tea and coffee.
