President Santos, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate says he will “not fail Colombia’s hope for Peace” in LSE lecture

Latin America and Caribbean Centre (LACC) and LSE Ideas welcomed the President of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, to LSE to speak on the Legacy of Peace. The event took place as part of his state visit to the UK, the first ever by a Colombian President.

In his speech to the LSE community and invited guests, the President spoke about the journey and future path to peace, which he described as important for his country, the region and the world. President Santos explained how the surprising No vote in the plebiscite on the peace agreement had been used as an opportunity for a national dialogue to negotiate a new agreement with the FARC. The President affirmed his commitment to creating a stable and long-lasting peace that satisfies the needs of the poorest and most vulnerable in Colombia. More information here

LACC and UniAndes will host a joint conference on the Colombian Peace Process for cross sector collaboration

In December the Latin America and Caribbean Centre (LACC) and Universidad de los Andes will hold a conference on the Colombian Peace Process in Bogota.

The conference, funded by the Global Challenges Research Fund Impact Accelerator Account (IAA GCRF), will draw together a wide range of delegates, including national and international policy-makers, civil society organisations, and business groups.

LSE academics will present their research and expertise on topics related to the peace agenda, providing an international comparative perspective. The conference will explore avenues for knowledge exchange, joint research and the dissemination of information with our Colombian partners.

The conference will mark LACC’s first step towards setting up of an Observatory on the peace process led by Francisco Panizza, Professor in Latin American and Comparative Politics at LSE.
