Megan Ryburn joined the Department of Geography and Environment in 2015 as an LSE Fellow in Human Geography. She obtained her PhD from Queen Mary University of London, where she held a Principal’s Studentship jointly funded by the School of Geography and the School of Politics and International Relations. Prior to that, she completed an MPhil in Latin American Studies at the University of Cambridge, enabled by a Santander University Scholarship. She carried out her BA (Hons) at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand.
Megan’s work focuses on migration and citizenship, particularly within a global South context. Based on multi-sited ethnographic fieldwork in Chile and Bolivia, her doctoral research addressed the citizenship practices of Bolivian migrants in Chile, and the ways in which migrant organisations influence these practices. Prior to this, she has worked on Chilean exile in the UK and New Zealand during the Pinochet dictatorship. Megan was Co-Chair of the UK-wide Postgraduates in Latin American Studies Society (PILAS) from 2014 – 2015.
