Mario Spiezio

Mario SpiezioBeing interested in international development and decision making, I studied Social Science for Cooperation and Development at the Università degli Studi di Pavia, Italy. In 2010, I joined the LAMA Development Agency and the agro-farming enterprise And Liguey, in Italy and Senegal, working on different development projects. Subsequently, I developed an interest in Human Rights and Policy-Making which led me to co-operate with Animosa Onlus (volunteering Colombia) and to work at the Italian Embassy in Bogotà, Colombia. I became aware of the importance of social inclusion and citizenship to promote a more democratic decision-making process.

The MPA has certainly helped me to improve my analytical skills and opened my eyes to the many different aspects of public policy. At the IPA, great importance is given to the intersection between quantitative analysis and theoretical frameworks to enhance a more critical approach, as well as the development of new governance models. Thanks to the different streams of specialisation offered by the MPA programme, I further advanced my knowledge in fields of research such as social policy and global governance. Furthermore, what really engaged me here in London is the cohort of students I met. Through group projects and social life off-campus, I had a great opportunity to exchange ideas and form friendships with many interesting and intelligent people.
