Mahmut holds a PhD in Management Science awarded in 2011 by Lancaster University, UK and was awarded the Brian Kingsman Prize for Best Doctoral Researcher. Prior his PhD studies, he was a Global Commodity Lead Buyer at Mercedes-Benz Procurement, and worked as a Management Consultant for Accenture specialising in supply chain management and low-cost country sourcing.  In 2012, Mahmut started working for the Research Council of Oman as a Senior Consultant for the National Innovation Strategy, where he contributed to Oman’s Science, Technology and Innovation Policy (STIP) Review conducted with UNCTAD. In 2014, he was appointed as the Senior Advisor for SME Strategy and Policy Development at the Public Authority for SME Development, chaired by the Minister of Commerce and Industry. Mahmut is currently an Honorary Research Associate at Lancaster University Management School. His interests lie in public policy and private sector development in developing countries. His expertise encompasses areas of accelerated industry evolution and diversification of economy through SME development.
